Sheet Steel Helps Projects Go Green

Global warming and the climate change crisis have become important issues around the world. The Canadian steel industry has complied with and in many instances exceeded government initiatives, including the Kyoto Protocol, to take the appropriate steps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants in the manufacturing of steel and steel products.

Canadian steel makers are using new processes and technologies in manufacturing that contribute less air pollution, conserve fresh water, reduce energy usage, and reduce waste to landfills. More importantly, as our steel makers re-evaluate their processes to be more environmentally conscious, they are making great strides in manufacturing products that contribute to sustainable development and the entire green movement. New steel products are energy efficient, durable, have incomparable accuracy, and aid in faster construction.

The CSSBI supports members’ commitment to their green initiatives through our 2008 Ad Campaign, which focuses on the benefits of recycled sheet steel products and the lower environmental impact they have on air, water, and land. Steel is the most recycled material in the world with a reclamation rate of 70% worldwide. While the amount of recycled content varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, the 2008 campaign showcases the recyclability, durability, and lower life cycles these products offer. The campaign encourages builders and architects to become more environmentally conscious on their next projects by using sheet steel products, which will help achieve sustainable development and meet accredited certification programs.

Go Green CSSBI Advertisements

In 2008 the CSSBI introduced its Go Green advertising campaign. The campaign was designed to bring to the forefront the ecological benefits of building with steel. The concept brought forth the green advantages of using sheet steel through the point of view of nature itself. Striking graphics and a unique creative format helped to make the campaign effective and memorable.
